Continuous representation
Many eligible voters cannot participate in every decision. To preserve accurate district representation despite lower participation, Vote United employs a liquid democracy mechanism.
Under this system, a voter may designate a proxy—an unelected fellow voter within the same district—or revoke or reassign that proxy at any time. A proxy may be a public official, family member, friend, or any trusted individual chosen to vote on the delegator’s behalf. When a voter does not cast a ballot on a given issue, their vote is automatically aligned with the current proxy’s choice, ensuring the voter’s preferences remain represented.
This model retains the foundational principles of representative democracy while adding continuous flexibility: voters may reclaim their direct voting authority at any time, change proxy delegates as they see fit, and hold elected officials accountable through ongoing engagement.
Liquid democracy
Participation in the liquid democracy mechanism is at-will.
Proxies can be changed or reneged at any time.
Proxies might have proxies of their own, whose votes ladder up the same way.
